MAT Watches Picobello Chrono brings motor-racing style to a compact steel case

MAT Watches, the independent French maker whose name stands for Mer Air Terre, has produced a characterful Picobello Chrono inspired by midcentury motorsport. The steel case carries a black bidirectional aluminium bezel, a smoky caviar-grey dial and two dark chronograph subdials. Warm ivory-coloured luminous hands and indexes lend this precision instrument a neo-retro look.

The 39.5 mm 316L steel case measures 46.7 mm from lug to lug and is rated to 200 metres. A domed antireflective sapphire crystal protects the dial, with a screw-down crown and transparent back. Inside is a Seiko VK64 hybrid meca-quartz chronograph calibre—not a purely mechanical automatic movement—with a distinctive sweeping chronograph hand.

MAT lists the reference AG9 CH GRI at €890. Its earlier campaign photography dates back to 2025; this is an existing watch selected for French-watchmaker coverage, rather than an October 2026 model launch.
