What to know

The grey Ressence Type 2 gives the hybrid idea an almost monochromatic appearance. Its convex titanium dial and rotating satellite discs read as a single fluid surface, not as a traditional watch face with hands moving above a flat background. The result is closer to a quiet industrial interface than to either an old-fashioned mechanical watch or a smartwatch.

This version uses the same mechanical architecture as the Night Blue Type 2: a customised automatic 2892/A base drives Ressence's ROCS 2 orbiting display, with approximately 36 hours of mainspring reserve. In parallel sits the e-Crown, an electronic module powered partly by custom photovoltaic cells beneath ten micro-shutters. The shutters are integrated into the time display so subtly that the technology does not dominate the visual identity.

By tapping the crystal, the wearer can engage the electronic setting system and change between two stored time zones. The e-Crown can remember the correct time while the watch is resting and realign the mechanical display when the owner returns. The complication deserves precise language: daylight powers the accessory electronics and their motors, not a solar-powered mechanical movement. Disconnecting the e-Crown does not disable mechanical timekeeping.

The grade 5 titanium case is 45 mm across and 12 mm high with splash resistance. Ressence currently lists this Grey version at €61,900 including VAT, but marked sold out. The Type 2 is part of the brand's 2019 e-Crown lineage. Its lasting achievement lies in reducing the visual complexity of connected functionality rather than piling more icons onto a dial.
