Roger Dubuis turns the Excalibur into a moving hawthorn

The Excalibur Lady of the Lake Hawthorn uses asymmetry, sculpted mother-of-pearl and a rotating flower to make botanical ornament behave like watch architecture.

Research method

Cross-checked the official product page and exact-model photography against a dated specialist launch report. No hands-on observation; edition size omitted because the manufacturer did not state one.

The analysis

Can a jewel-set botanical watch remain recognisably Excalibur? The Lady of the Lake Hawthorn answers by keeping Roger Dubuis’s structural signatures visible: a sharply fluted bezel, forceful lugs and a dial that refuses classical symmetry. The flowers soften the material language, but they do not turn the watch into a conventional floral miniature.

Seven white mother-of-pearl flowers sit across a field of 147 diamonds, accompanied by 13 pear-cut red sapphires. The arrangement is deliberately uneven. One flower at six o’clock doubles as the small-seconds display, so movement is absorbed into the botanical scene rather than isolated in a conventional register.

The 36 mm pink-gold case is 9.85 mm thick according to dated specialist launch coverage and is water-resistant to 30 metres. Roger Dubuis sets 95 diamonds, close to 1.3 carats, across the case ring, bezel and lugs. A crimson alligator strap continues the red of the sapphire haws without competing with the dial’s white relief.

The sapphire back reveals the automatic RD830: 183 components, 27 jewels, a 4 Hz frequency, a 48-hour power reserve and an openworked 22K-gold rotor. Roger Dubuis lists the price on request and does not state a numbered edition size on the checked product page, so no limitation claim is made here.

This is desk-based design analysis of manufacturer material and official images. The defensible observation is that asymmetry does the real work: the Excalibur’s aggressive geometry becomes the frame, while the flowers supply rhythm, depth and the small-seconds motion.
