What to know
The black-dial SPB379J1 gives Seiko’s Alpinist GMT a quieter, more instrument-like identity than the blue SPB377. Large Arabic numerals at the quarter hours, luminous wedge markers and a red-tipped 24-hour hand make the information hierarchy immediately clear. The fixed brushed-steel 24-hour bezel carries the second time-zone scale, while a separate rotating inner compass ring retains the Alpinist’s mountaineering character.
The 39.5 mm steel case is 13.6 mm thick and protected by a super-hard coating. A curved sapphire crystal with interior anti-reflective treatment shields the dial. The automatic 6R54 offers around 72 hours of power reserve, with hand winding and hacking seconds. With 200 m water resistance and a black leather strap, this is a useful travel companion that still reads as a classic field watch.

First introduced alongside the blue SPB377 in September 2023, the SPB379 is not an October 2026 launch. Seiko’s US catalogue currently lists it for US$1,150.
