What to know

The Alpinist is one of Seiko’s most recognisable outdoor-watch designs, with a distinctive arrangement of bold Arabic numerals, wedge markers, sculpted hands and a second crown for its inner compass ring. In reference SPB377J1, a rich sunburst-blue dial and matching leather strap bring that heritage into a travelling-watch format. A red-tipped GMT hand points to an engraved 24-hour scale on the fixed steel bezel, adding useful time-zone information without sacrificing the Alpinist’s original visual character.

The 39.5 mm steel case has a scratch-resistant super-hard coating, measures 13.6 mm thick and spans 46.4 mm lug to lug. Under its curved, anti-reflective sapphire crystal sits Seiko’s automatic calibre 6R54, offering hand winding and approximately 72 hours of power reserve. The rotating compass ring, screw-down crown, display caseback and 200 m water resistance underline its identity as an outdoors-capable watch.

The SPB377 was introduced in 2023; this is a retrospective design feature rather than a newly released 2026 model. Seiko currently lists it at US$1,150 on the American product page. It demonstrates how a second time-zone complication can feel natural in a tool watch originally designed for exploring unfamiliar terrain.
