What to know

BALL Watch brings a distinctive aviation-inspired colour treatment to its Engineer Hydrocarbon AeroGMT II Blackbird. Three references share a compact-looking 40 mm steel case and black dial, but each is distinguished by its two-tone curved sapphire bezel: blue and red (S25C), black and blue (S26C), or black and green (S27C). The company lists a limited edition of 60 for each reference.

The movement is BALL's automatic RR1201-C, certified as a chronometer by COSC. The watch indicates hours, minutes, running seconds, date and three time zones. Its bidirectional 24-hour bezel lets the wearer offset an additional time-zone reading, a practical feature for frequent travel.

Night-time legibility is its defining mechanical-design feature. BALL specifies 44 micro gas tubes distributed across the dial, hands and bezel. Unlike luminous paint that needs prior exposure to light, these sealed self-illuminating markers create the watch's unmistakable multi-colour display in darkness. The official night photographs make the difference especially striking.

The Engineer Hydrocarbon case is more than decorative armour. BALL rates the Blackbird for 7,500 G shock resistance and anti-magnetism of 4,800 A/m. The patented crown-guard arrangement protects a vulnerable point of any mechanical wristwatch. Water resistance is 100 metres, appropriate for an everyday travel watch rather than a dedicated deep-diving instrument.

The stainless steel case measures 40 mm in diameter, 14.5 mm thick and 51 mm lug-to-lug. A 2.7 mm dome-shaped anti-reflective sapphire crystal covers the dial. The watch weighs about 220 g on its tapered steel bracelet, which features BALL's patented folding clasp and extension. Lug width is 20 mm.

The three bezel colour options shift the appearance without changing the core design. Blue and red offers an overtly classic travel-watch silhouette; black and blue is more subdued; black and green introduces an unusual accent. All three transform after dark into a vibrant arrangement of glowing GMT numbers, hour markers and hands.

BALL currently lists pre-orders with estimated delivery in December 2026 to January 2027. The published US list price is $3,899, with a $3,299 pre-order special on the official page at the time of writing. Prices, shipping destinations and availability can change. The result is a watch that combines practical mechanical travel functions with perhaps BALL's strongest visual signature: a dial designed to be read long after the lights go out.
