What to know

This is not a dinosaur-inspired colourway. The dial of the L’Artisan Jurassic is made from actual fossilised dinosaur bone, which the Belgian maker says dates to the Late Cretaceous, roughly 66–68 million years ago. Sourced from the Hell Creek Formation in Montana, the fossil has become stone over geological time, leaving a different natural pattern on every dial.

Applied Breguet-style numerals and a raised minute track frame the fossil without overpowering it. The combination makes the watch feel more like a carefully presented geological artefact than a conventional novelty edition.

The 38mm stainless-steel case has a domed sapphire crystal and an exhibition back showing the HZ5000A automatic micro-rotor calibre. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a stated 42-hour power reserve. A brown leather strap completes the watch.

L’Artisan is offering a final run of just 14 pieces at €1,495, with no restock planned for this execution. Each watch is assembled, finished and regulated by hand in Belgium. Its fascination lies in the material: a fragment of prehistoric life, preserved in a mechanical object made to measure time.
