Audemars Piguet 150 Heritage: an ultra-complication that belongs in a pocket

At 50mm, Audemars Piguet’s 150 Heritage is a reminder that extreme horology need not be confined to the wrist. The platinum pocket watch is decorated with hand engraving, a translucent blue grand feu enamel dial, hand-worked white-gold Roman numerals and a handmade chain. Beneath its classical surfaces is a modern answer to an almost impossibly complex brief.

Hand-wound Calibre 1150 comprises 1,099 components, with 40 functions including 22 complications under AP’s stated counting method. They encompass a flying tourbillon, split-seconds flyback chronograph, perpetual calendar and chiming mechanisms. A Universal Calendar inside the caseback brings together solar, lunar and lunisolar cycles, adding an unexpected second face to this remarkable object.

The watch is less a return to nostalgia than a deliberate reconsideration of format: the pocket provides room for an instrument that feels ceremonial, functional and sculptural at once.
