Ressence Type 8 Cobalt Blue: watch design reduced to hours, minutes and motion
The 42.9 mm titanium Type 8 turns the brand's complex orbital mechanics into a deliberately sparse two-indication dial.

What to know
Long before the Type 11 arrived with its dedicated new movement, the Type 8 made a different kind of statement: how little information does a mechanical watch actually need? The Cobalt Blue version debuted in 2022 and distilled the Ressence experience to two functions, hours and minutes. Almost the entire surface is an uninterrupted blue titanium disc, with a smaller off-centre rotating hour disc moving through it.
That visual simplicity requires the ROCS 8 orbital display, driven by a customised automatic ETA 2892-based movement. Ressence deliberately removes the usual projecting crown; the caseback handles manual winding and time adjustment. Satin and polished areas of the grade 5 titanium body create the appearance of a single smooth pebble, with the domed sapphire following its profile.

At 42.9 mm in diameter and 11 mm thick, the Type 8 has a 36-hour reserve and is only splash resistant—this is not a dive watch. Blue Super-LumiNova brightens the engraved indications at night. Ressence currently lists it at €18,000 including VAT. The result is a lesson in design restraint: much of the machinery is devoted to making reading two pieces of information seem effortless.
