What to know
There is nothing ordinary about the surface of an anOrdain Model 1 Fumé. In the Glasgow maker’s Plum version, a deep garnet centre darkens to wine-red at the edges, a gradient developed through experiments with curved silver dial blanks and vitreous enamel. Unlike printed or lacquered gradients, each dial’s depth is achieved through demanding kiln-fired craftsmanship.
The dial’s old-map typography reflects the Scottish Highlands, while compass-like hands are individually polished and heat tempered to their distinctive warm straw tone. Against the moody enamel, those small choices matter: the watch feels drawn and made rather than simply styled.

Three case sizes—35mm, 38mm and 41mm—make the design adaptable. Buyers can choose a hand-wound Sellita SW210 or automatic La Joux-Perret G101-based options. Sapphire crystal, polished steel and 5ATM water resistance bring modern utility to an otherwise artisanal exercise.

Unlike standard production watches, the Model 1 is made to order through anOrdain’s workshop and waiting-list system. Its appeal is in the human work behind the colour: hours of enamel experimentation turn a remarkably restrained three-hand watch into an object that rewards close inspection.
