Cleguer Inspiration One: an independent debut built around a new escapement

Geneva-based Mathieu Cleguer has introduced the Inspiration One, a striking first watch built around the mechanics of precision. Its tiered, open movement architecture places a large balance wheel low on the dial, while a small white champlevé Grand Feu enamel chapter at two o’clock handles the hours and minutes. The long central seconds hand crosses the exposed mechanism.

The hand-wound movement’s proprietary Innate escapement combines elements of the natural double-wheel escapement with a tangential impulse arrangement designed to address the self-starting problem. A Maltese-cross stopwork helps control the torque delivered by the mainspring; running time is 36 hours.

The titanium Souscription model measures 38.5mm across and 12mm thick. Only twelve initial examples were offered; Cleguer plans 80 Inspiration One watches across different case metals, including unique executions. This is small-scale independent watchmaking with a genuine engineering proposition, not merely an unconventional dial.
